How to Forward Calls from Comcast Business to Ringing.io
Comcast Business gives you both: dial *72 from the phone for a quick setup, or use the VoiceEdge portal / My Account to manage Call Forwarding Always, Busy, and No Answer with full visibility.
Comcast Business has two voice products with overlapping but distinct controls. Comcast Business Voice (basic SMB / landline-style service) is line-based — rules attach to the phone number. Comcast Business VoiceEdge (cloud PBX) is user-based — each user has their own forwarding settings in the VoiceEdge portal or the Comcast Business app. The star codes (*72 / *73 / *90 / *92) work on both. The portal is the reliable way to inspect and toggle rules.
Forward every call to Ringing.io (Call Forwarding Always)
Activate Call Forwarding Always via *72 or the VoiceEdge / My Account portal so all incoming calls reach Ringing.io.
- 1
Option A — from the phone, dial *72
Pick up the Comcast Business handset and dial *72 followed by your 10-digit Ringing.io number. Listen for the confirmation tone and hang up.
*72 + 10-digit Ringing.io number - 2
Option B — VoiceEdge portal (recommended)
For Business VoiceEdge, sign in to business.comcast.com and open the VoiceEdge portal (or the Comcast Business app). For basic Business Voice, sign in at business.comcast.com > My Account > Manage Services > Voice.
- 3
Open Call Forwarding for your user / line
VoiceEdge: open the user, then click Call Forwarding Always. Business Voice: from My Account choose the phone number, then Call Forwarding > Always.
- 4
Enter your Ringing.io number and turn it ON
Type your 10-digit Ringing.io number in the "Forward to" field and toggle the feature ON. Click Save.
- 5
Verify with the *72 interrogation code (optional)
On VoiceEdge you can dial *73 to hear the current Call Forwarding Always state and destination. Useful for confirming the configuration matches what you set in the portal.
- 6
Test
Call the Comcast Business number from another phone — it should ring straight to Ringing.io.
How to undo: Dial *73 from the Comcast line to deactivate Call Forwarding Always. Or in the VoiceEdge / My Account portal, open Call Forwarding Always and toggle OFF.
Note: On VoiceEdge specifically, *21 routes all calls to voicemail and is sometimes confused with call forwarding. To restore normal ringing after testing, dial #21 to deactivate "Call Forward Always to Voicemail" in addition to *73.
After-hours only — VoiceEdge scheduling or manual toggling
Use VoiceEdge's Auto Attendant / Schedules to route after-hours calls to Ringing.io. For basic Business Voice, fall back to manual *72 / *73 toggling.
- 1
VoiceEdge — open Schedules in the portal
Sign in to the Business VoiceEdge portal and go to the Schedules section. Click Add Schedule, name it "Business Hours", and define each day's open hours. Save.
- 2
VoiceEdge — edit your Automated Attendant
Open the Automated Attendant assigned to your main number. In the After Hours menu, add a key (or set the default action) to "Forward to" your 10-digit Ringing.io number. Save.
- 3
VoiceEdge — assign the schedule
On the Automated Attendant, assign the Business Hours schedule you created. Calls now route through the Business Hours menu during open hours and the After Hours menu otherwise.
- 4
Basic Business Voice — manual toggling
Basic Comcast Business Voice does not have a native scheduler. At end of day dial *72 + your Ringing.io number; in the morning dial *73. Recommended fix: publish your Ringing.io number as your main line and let Ringing.io handle the schedule.
- 5
Test
VoiceEdge: temporarily mark the current time as "after hours" in the schedule and call the main number — it should forward to Ringing.io. Restore the real hours when confirmed.
How to undo: VoiceEdge: open the Automated Attendant > After Hours menu and remove the forward to Ringing.io (or change to your previous destination). Basic Business Voice: dial *73 to turn manual forwarding off.
Forward only when busy or unanswered
Use Call Forwarding Busy (*90) and Call Forwarding No Answer (*92) so your Comcast phone rings first and Ringing.io catches what you miss.
- 1
Enable Call Forwarding Busy
From the Comcast line, dial *90 followed by your 10-digit Ringing.io number. Wait for the confirmation tone. (Disable later with *91.)
*90 + 10-digit Ringing.io number - 2
Enable Call Forwarding No Answer
On the same line dial *92 followed by your 10-digit Ringing.io number. Wait for the confirmation tone. (Disable later with *93.)
*92 + 10-digit Ringing.io number - 3
Or use the portal
VoiceEdge: open your user > Call Forwarding > Busy and No Answer, enter your Ringing.io number in each, set the no-answer ring count (typically 4-6 rings), and toggle ON. Business Voice: My Account > Voice > Call Forwarding > Busy / No Answer.
- 4
Make sure voicemail does not intercept first
In the user's Voicemail settings, raise the voicemail "no-answer ring count" higher than your forwarding ring count, so the Ringing.io forward triggers before voicemail picks up.
- 5
Test
Call your Comcast number and let it ring out — Ringing.io should answer after the configured rings. Test again while on another call to verify busy.
How to undo: Dial *91 to disable Call Forwarding Busy and *93 to disable Call Forwarding No Answer. Or toggle both off in the VoiceEdge / My Account portal.
Note: On VoiceEdge, also check that "Sequential Ring" or "Simultaneous Ring" features are off — they can compete with Call Forwarding Busy / No Answer and route calls differently than expected.

Frequently asked questions
What are the Comcast Business call forwarding star codes?
*72 enables Call Forwarding Always; *73 disables it. *90 enables Call Forwarding Busy; *91 disables it. *92 enables Call Forwarding No Answer; *93 disables it. *21 is "Call Forwarding Always to Voicemail" — distinct from *72 — and is disabled with #21.
What is the difference between Comcast Business Voice and Business VoiceEdge?
Business Voice is a basic landline-style service tied to your physical phone line — forwarding rules attach to the number. Business VoiceEdge is a cloud PBX with per-user controls, an admin portal, mobile/desktop apps, automated attendants, and native schedules. Both support the same forwarding star codes.
Where do I configure call forwarding in the VoiceEdge portal?
Sign in at business.comcast.com, open the Business VoiceEdge portal (or the Comcast Business app), and navigate to your user > Call Forwarding. Three rules are available: Always, Busy, and No Answer. Each takes an external destination and a toggle.
Does Comcast Business support time-of-day forwarding?
Yes on VoiceEdge — create a Schedule and assign it to the Automated Attendant or a user's Sequential Ring. No on basic Business Voice — that product does not have a built-in scheduler, so either toggle *72 / *73 manually or publish your Ringing.io number as your main line.
Why does *72 say "feature not available"?
The line may not have Call Forwarding enabled at the account level (some lower-tier Business Voice plans require it as an add-on). Sign in to My Account > Manage Services > Voice to confirm Call Forwarding is provisioned for that line, or contact Comcast Business support.
Can I forward to an international number from Comcast Business?
Generally no — Comcast Business restricts call forwarding to domestic US destinations. Your Ringing.io number is a US number so forwarding works without limitation, but the same restriction prevents forwarding to international destinations directly.
Does forwarding cost extra?
Call Forwarding Always, Busy, and No Answer are included on most Business Voice and VoiceEdge plans at no extra charge. Forwarded calls to a domestic destination use your included long-distance minutes (or are unlimited on most current plans). Check your plan if you have very high call volume.
