How to Forward Calls from AT&T to Ringing.io
Use AT&T Wireless GSM star codes to forward calls to your Ringing.io number — either all of them, or only the ones you miss or are too busy to take.
AT&T Wireless runs on a GSM network, so it uses the **21* / **61* / **67* family of dial codes rather than the older *72 codes that Verizon uses. AT&T does not natively support time-of-day or after-hours call-forwarding schedules — for business hours / after-hours behaviour the recommended approach is to publish your Ringing.io number and let Ringing.io handle the schedule.
Forward every call to Ringing.io
Send 100% of incoming AT&T calls to your Ringing.io number — your phone never rings.
- 1
Open the phone dialer
Open the standard phone / dialer app on your AT&T device.
- 2
Dial the GSM activation code with your Ringing.io number
Dial **21* followed immediately by your full 10-digit Ringing.io number, then press #. The area code is required. AT&T documents this as the immediate-forwarding code on its wireless support page.
**21*[10-digit Ringing.io number]# - 3
Press call and wait for confirmation
Press the call button. Wait at least three seconds for a confirmation tone or short voice message before ending the call. AT&T notes that ending the call too quickly can cause the request to fail silently.
- 4
Test it
Call your AT&T number from another phone. It should ring through to Ringing.io and your AI receptionist should pick up. Note: call forwarding overrides your AT&T voicemail, so you will not see missed-call voicemails from forwarded calls.
How to undo: From your AT&T device, dial ##21# and press call. Forwarding stops immediately and your phone will ring normally again.
Forward only when you miss the call (no-answer)
Your phone rings first. If you do not pick up after a few rings, the call is forwarded to Ringing.io instead of going to AT&T voicemail.
- 1
Open the phone dialer
Open the standard phone / dialer app on your AT&T device.
- 2
Dial the no-answer forward code with your Ringing.io number
Dial **61* followed by your full 10-digit Ringing.io number, then press #. This is the GSM "Call Forwarding on No Reply" code that AT&T supports.
**61*[10-digit Ringing.io number]# - 3
Optional — also forward when busy
If you also want forwarding to kick in when your line is busy on another call, dial **67* + your Ringing.io number + #. You can have both rules active at the same time.
**67*[10-digit Ringing.io number]# - 4
Press call and wait for confirmation
After each code, press call and wait for a confirmation tone before ending the call.
How to undo: Dial ##61# to clear no-answer forwarding and ##67# to clear busy forwarding. Dial ##002# to clear every conditional forwarding rule at once.
Note: The no-answer timeout is set by AT&T (typically ~15 seconds / 3-4 rings) and is not user-adjustable from the dialer. If your AT&T voicemail is picking up before forwarding kicks in, switch to **21* (unconditional) which bypasses voicemail entirely.
After-hours only (manual schedule)
AT&T Wireless does not have a native time-of-day schedule, so you have two options.
- 1
Recommended — publish your Ringing.io number
Put your Ringing.io number on your website, Google Business Profile, and signage. Configure your business hours inside Ringing.io. The AI will route in-hours calls to you (transfer to your AT&T line) and handle after-hours calls itself. This requires zero AT&T configuration and gives you a proper schedule.
- 2
Manual alternative — toggle **21* at end of day
If you must keep your AT&T number published, manually dial **21* + your Ringing.io number + # when you close, and ##21# when you reopen. Some users automate this with a Shortcuts (iOS) or Tasker (Android) routine that dials the code on a schedule.
How to undo: For the manual approach, ##21# turns forwarding off at any time. For the Ringing.io-as-published-number approach, change your business hours in the Ringing.io dashboard.

Frequently asked questions
Does AT&T charge for call forwarding?
AT&T does not charge a monthly fee for call forwarding on standard wireless plans. Forwarded calls use airtime against your plan minutes if your plan is not unlimited, but otherwise there is no per-call surcharge.
Why does AT&T use **21* instead of *72?
AT&T Wireless runs on the GSM standard, which uses the **21* / **61* / **67* family of codes (these are international GSM standards, not AT&T-specific). The older *72 / *73 codes were popularised by CDMA carriers like Verizon and Sprint and by traditional landlines. Both work — just on different network types.
Will my AT&T number still receive text messages while forwarding is on?
Yes. AT&T call forwarding only redirects voice calls. SMS and MMS messages continue to arrive on your AT&T device as normal.
How do I tell if call forwarding is currently active on my AT&T line?
Dial *#21# from your AT&T device and press call. It will display the current immediate-forwarding setting. You can also dial *#61# for no-answer status and *#67# for busy status. To clear everything in one shot, dial ##002#.
Can I forward my AT&T number to a non-US number?
No. AT&T explicitly blocks call forwarding to international numbers. Your Ringing.io number is a US number so this is not an issue, but it means you cannot use these codes to forward overseas.
Can I set different forwarding rules for business and personal hours on AT&T?
AT&T Wireless does not natively support time-of-day forwarding schedules. The practical solution is to publish your Ringing.io number as your business line and configure business hours inside Ringing.io — Ringing.io then routes in-hours calls to you and handles after-hours itself.
I have AT&T Home Phone or U-verse, do these codes work?
No — AT&T Digital Phone / U-verse Voice uses the older *72 (activate) and *73 (deactivate) codes from a landline handset, plus a web-based configuration panel for more advanced rules. The **21* GSM codes only work on AT&T Wireless mobile lines.
