How to Forward Calls from Verizon to Ringing.io

Use Verizon Wireless star codes to forward calls to your Ringing.io number — either all of them, or only the ones you miss.

USUS MobileWireless

Verizon Wireless does not natively support time-of-day or after-hours call-forwarding schedules. For business hours / after-hours behaviour, the recommended approach is to publish your Ringing.io number as your business line and let Ringing.io handle the schedule.

1

Forward every call to Ringing.io

Send 100% of incoming Verizon calls to your Ringing.io number — your phone never rings.

When to use this: You want the AI receptionist to answer everything. You will still see the call in your Ringing.io dashboard with the full transcript.
  1. 1

    Open the phone dialer

Open the standard phone / dialer app on your Verizon device.

  2. 2

Dial the activation code with your Ringing.io number

Dial *72 followed immediately by your full 10-digit Ringing.io number (no spaces or dashes). The area code is required even for local numbers.

    *72 + 10-digit Ringing.io number
  3. 3

Press call and wait for confirmation

Press the call button. You will hear a confirmation tone or a short voice message. Verizon may complete the request immediately or call the number once to verify.

  4. 4

    Test it

Call your Verizon number from another phone. It should ring through to Ringing.io and your AI receptionist should pick up.

How to undo: From your Verizon device, dial *73 and press call. Forwarding stops immediately. Your phone will ring normally again.

2

Forward only when you miss the call (no-answer)

Your phone rings first. If you do not answer, the call is forwarded to Ringing.io instead of going to Verizon voicemail.

When to use this: You want to take calls when you can, but never let one drop to voicemail. The AI catches everything you miss.
  1. 1

    Open the phone dialer

Open the standard phone / dialer app on your Verizon device.

  2. 2

Dial the no-answer forward code with your Ringing.io number

Dial *71 followed by your full 10-digit Ringing.io number. Verizon uses *71 as the conditional-forwarding code (forward on busy or no-answer) on most plans.

    *71 + 10-digit Ringing.io number
  3. 3

    Press call

Press the call button. Verizon will confirm the change.

How to undo: Dial *73 and press call. This clears both unconditional (*72) and conditional (*71) forwarding rules.

Note: *71 behaviour can vary slightly by plan and device — Verizon documents it as "forward unanswered calls" but a few legacy plans use it differently. If *71 does not work on your line, call *611 from your Verizon device or use the My Verizon app to set conditional forwarding manually.

3

After-hours only (manual schedule)

Verizon Wireless does not have a native time-of-day schedule, so you have two options.

When to use this: You want to answer your own phone during business hours and have Ringing.io cover nights and weekends.
  1. 1

Recommended — publish your Ringing.io number

Put your Ringing.io number on your website, Google Business Profile, and signage. Configure your business hours inside Ringing.io. The AI will route in-hours calls to you (transfer to your Verizon line) and handle after-hours calls itself. This requires zero Verizon configuration and gives you a proper schedule.

  2. 2

Manual alternative — toggle *72 at end of day

If you must keep your Verizon number published, manually dial *72 + your Ringing.io number when you close, and *73 when you reopen. Some users automate this via a Shortcuts (iOS) or Tasker (Android) routine that dials the code on a schedule.

How to undo: For the manual approach, *73 turns forwarding off at any time. For the Ringing.io-as-published-number approach, change your business hours in the Ringing.io dashboard.

Frequently asked questions

Does Verizon charge for call forwarding?

Verizon does not charge a monthly fee for call forwarding on most plans. However, if your plan does not include unlimited minutes, forwarded calls count against your minute allowance. A small per-call fee can apply on a few older legacy plans — check My Verizon for your specific plan.

Will my Verizon number still receive text messages while forwarding is on?

Yes. Verizon call forwarding only redirects voice calls. SMS and MMS messages continue to arrive on your Verizon device as normal.

How do I tell if call forwarding is currently active?

There is no on-screen indicator on most Verizon devices. The reliable test is to call your Verizon number from another phone — if your Verizon device does not ring, forwarding is active. You can also dial *73 to deactivate (it is harmless if there was nothing active).

Can I forward to a non-US number?

No. Verizon requires the forwarding target to be a US number including the 10-digit area code. Your Ringing.io number is a US number so this is not an issue, but it does mean you cannot use the same code to forward internationally.

Why is my call going to Verizon voicemail instead of Ringing.io?

Most commonly: you used *71 (no-answer forwarding) and your Verizon voicemail timeout is shorter than the forward timeout, so voicemail picks up first. Fix: in the My Verizon app, lower your voicemail "ring duration" or switch to *72 (unconditional) which bypasses voicemail entirely.

Can I set different forwarding rules for business and personal hours?

Verizon Wireless does not natively support time-of-day forwarding schedules. The practical solution is to publish your Ringing.io number as your business line and configure business hours inside Ringing.io — Ringing.io then routes in-hours calls to you and handles after-hours itself.

I have a Verizon Fios landline, do these codes work?

Verizon Fios Digital Voice uses the same *72 / *73 codes for unconditional forwarding from your landline phone, plus a web/app configuration panel for advanced rules including time-of-day. Sign in to your Verizon Fios account to see the full options.

Don't have a Ringing.io number yet?

Get one in five minutes, set up your AI receptionist, then come back to this page to forward Verizon.
