How to Forward Calls from RingCentral to Ringing.io

RingCentral has a real call-handling engine: send all calls to Ringing.io, ring it alongside your team, or fire it only after hours — all from Settings > Phone > Call handling.

USCAVoIPBusiness

RingCentral natively supports time-of-day schedules and conditional forwarding, so every scenario below is a real built-in setting rather than a workaround. The same controls live in two places: the RingCentral app (Settings > Phone) and the Admin Portal (Users > Call Forwarding and Voicemail).

1

Forward every call to Ringing.io (Forward all calls)

Use RingCentral's Forward all calls toggle to immediately send 100% of inbound calls to your Ringing.io number, regardless of schedule.

When to use this: You want the AI receptionist to answer everything for a stretch of time — a vacation, an event day, or as your permanent setup.
  1. 1

    Open the RingCentral app

Sign in to the RingCentral desktop or web app at app.ringcentral.com.

  2. 2

    Open Settings > Phone

Click Settings in the left navigation bar, then click Phone in the left pane.

  3. 3

    Open Call handling

Scroll to the Call handling section and click Edit on the right.

  4. 4

Add Ringing.io as a forwarding phone

Under Incoming calls, click "Add phone", choose Number from the dropdown, and enter your full 10-digit Ringing.io number. Set its ring duration to your preference.

  5. 5

Set ring pattern to "Ring all at once" and disable your other devices

Switch the ring pattern to "Ring all at once", then toggle off every other phone in the list (your desktop app, mobile app, desk phone) so only Ringing.io rings.

  6. 6

    Save and test

Click Save. Call your RingCentral number from another phone — it should ring straight to Ringing.io.

How to undo: Go back to Settings > Phone > Call handling > Edit, toggle your devices back on, and remove the Ringing.io entry (or leave it disabled). Save.

Note: If you want a one-toggle on/off rather than a permanent forward, RingCentral also offers a "Forward all calls" feature (Settings > Phone > Forward all calls) that you can flip on for the day and off when you return.

2

After-hours only — Ringing.io covers nights and weekends

Use RingCentral's native work-hours / after-hours split so your team rings in business hours and Ringing.io picks up everything else.

When to use this: You and your team want to take live calls during business hours and have the AI receptionist handle anything outside that window.
  1. 1

    Open Call handling

In the RingCentral app, go to Settings > Phone, scroll to Call handling, and click Edit.

  2. 2

    Set your schedule

At the top of the Call handling window, click "Edit schedule" and configure your business hours by day. Save.

  3. 3

    Configure Work hours behavior

Select the Work hours tab and set Incoming calls to ring your devices as normal. Set Missed calls to "Forward to external number" and enter your Ringing.io number, so anything you miss in business hours still reaches the AI.

  4. 4

    Configure After hours behavior

Click the After hours tab. Under Incoming calls, choose "Do not ring" (so your team is not interrupted) and under Missed calls choose "Forward to external number" with your Ringing.io number. Save.

  5. 5

    Test before and after hours

Temporarily adjust your schedule (or wait) to verify both paths: a daytime call should ring your devices, and an after-hours call should land at Ringing.io.

How to undo: Go back to Settings > Phone > Call handling. In After hours, change Incoming calls back to your normal ring pattern and remove the external forward — or reset the schedule to 24/7 to disable the split entirely.

3

Ring your team first, send misses to Ringing.io

Ring your devices in sequence (or all at once), and if nobody answers within the timeout, the call is forwarded to Ringing.io instead of voicemail.

When to use this: You want a human to answer when possible, but never let a call drop to voicemail. The AI catches every miss.
  1. 1

    Open Call handling

Settings > Phone > Call handling > Edit (RingCentral app desktop or web).

  2. 2

    Configure Incoming calls (your devices)

Keep your desk phone, desktop app, and mobile app toggled on. Choose Ring in order (sequential) or Ring all at once. Set a total ring duration that gives your team a real chance to answer (typically 15-25 seconds).

  3. 3

Set Missed calls to forward to Ringing.io

Under Missed calls, choose "Forward to external number" from the dropdown and enter your full 10-digit Ringing.io number.

  4. 4

    Save and test

Save. Call your RingCentral number from another phone and let it ring without answering — after the ring duration, the call should be forwarded to Ringing.io.

How to undo: In Call handling, switch Missed calls back to "Send to voicemail" (or another option) and save.

Note: If your Missed calls option does not include "Forward to external number", an admin may need to enable external forwarding on your extension from the Admin Portal under Users > Call Forwarding and Voicemail.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I configure call forwarding in RingCentral?

Two equivalent places: in the RingCentral app (Settings > Phone > Call handling > Edit) for self-service, or in the Admin Portal (Users > select user > Call Forwarding and Voicemail) for admin-managed setup. Changes in one show up in the other.

Does RingCentral natively support business-hours schedules?

Yes. Click Edit schedule at the top of the Call handling window to set a custom weekly schedule, then configure separate rules under the Work hours and After hours tabs. This is built in — no workaround needed.

What is the difference between Forward all calls and Call handling forwarding?

Forward all calls (Settings > Phone > Forward all calls) is a single toggle that immediately redirects 100% of calls — meant to be flipped on for a vacation or event and off when you return. Call handling forwarding (Settings > Phone > Call handling) is the permanent rule engine where you configure ring patterns, work-hours behavior, and missed-call destinations.

Can I forward to Ringing.io only when my devices do not answer?

Yes. In Call handling, leave your devices toggled on for Incoming calls, then under Missed calls choose "Forward to external number" and enter your Ringing.io number. Calls ring your team first; if nobody picks up within the ring duration, the call goes to Ringing.io instead of voicemail.

Why is "Forward to external number" missing from my dropdown?

This option can be disabled at the extension or account level. An admin needs to enable external call forwarding in the Admin Portal under Users > select user > Call Forwarding and Voicemail. Some lower-tier plans also restrict external forwarding — check your plan if the admin toggle is not available.

Will SMS to my RingCentral number be forwarded to Ringing.io?

No. RingCentral call forwarding redirects voice calls only. SMS and MMS continue to land in your RingCentral app inbox. If you also want SMS automation, configure SMS handling separately inside RingCentral.

Do I need an admin to set this up?

For most user-level forwarding (your own extension), you can do it yourself in the RingCentral app at Settings > Phone > Call handling. For company-wide forwarding (Auto-Receptionist or main company number), an admin needs to use the Admin Portal at service.ringcentral.com.

Don't have a Ringing.io number yet?

Get one in five minutes, set up your AI receptionist, then come back to this page to forward RingCentral.
