How to Forward Calls from Vonage Business to Ringing.io

Configure call forwarding on any Vonage Business Communications extension from the Admin Portal at admin.vonage.com — send everything to Ringing.io, ring it alongside your team, or fall back to it on no-answer.

USVoIPBusiness

This guide covers Vonage Business Communications (VBC), the SMB cloud phone product. Vonage does not natively expose time-of-day forwarding schedules in the per-extension Call Forwarding panel — for after-hours behavior, publish your Ringing.io number and configure business hours inside Ringing.io, or use a Virtual Receptionist with a schedule at the account level.

1

Forward every call to Ringing.io

Set the extension to forward all incoming calls directly to your Ringing.io number — the extension itself never rings.

When to use this: You want the AI receptionist to answer 100% of calls to this extension, with full transcripts in your Ringing.io dashboard.
  1. 1

Sign in to the Vonage Admin Portal

Go to admin.vonage.com and sign in as a Super User or Admin.

  2. 2

    Open Phone System > Extensions

In the left navigation, click Phone System, then click Extensions.

  3. 3

    Edit the extension

Hover over the extension you want to forward and click the pencil (edit) icon.

  4. 4

Open Call Forwarding and enable it

Click Call Forwarding in the extension settings, then toggle "Forward Calls" to enabled.

  5. 5

Choose Send To Ext. or Number

Pick the "Send To Ext. or Number" option, then click "Add New Number" and enter your full 10-digit Ringing.io number. Save.

  6. 6

    Pick a Caller ID option

Choose "Originating Caller ID" so Ringing.io sees the actual caller number (not your Vonage number). Save.

  7. 7

    Test it

Call the Vonage number associated with this extension from another phone. It should connect to Ringing.io and the AI receptionist should answer.

How to undo: In Admin Portal > Phone System > Extensions, edit the extension, open Call Forwarding, and toggle "Forward Calls" to disabled. Save. The extension will ring your devices normally again.

Note: If you are signed in as an end user (not an admin), you can do the same thing at your end-user portal: Avatar > Settings > Call Forwarding > Forward All Calls. The destination field is the same.

2

Ring your team and Ringing.io at the same time (Simultaneous Ring)

Use Vonage's Simultaneous Ring to ring your extension and your Ringing.io number at the same time — whichever answers first connects.

When to use this: You want to take live calls when you can but never miss one. Your team grabs what they can; the AI receptionist catches the rest.
  1. 1

Sign in to the Admin Portal

    Go to admin.vonage.com.

  2. 2

Open Phone System > Extensions and edit the extension

Click Phone System > Extensions, hover the extension, and click the pencil icon.

  3. 3

Open Call Forwarding > Simultaneous Ring

In Call Forwarding, select Simultaneous Ring instead of Forward Calls.

  4. 4

Add Ringing.io to the ring list

Click "Add New Number" and enter your full 10-digit Ringing.io number. You can add up to five destinations total, including your extension itself and a backup mobile.

  5. 5

    Set the voicemail delay

Choose how long all numbers should ring before the call drops to voicemail (e.g. 30 seconds). Save.

  6. 6

    Test it

Call the extension from another phone. Your desk phone, mobile app, and Ringing.io should all ring. Whichever picks up first connects; the others stop.

How to undo: Edit the extension > Call Forwarding > switch back to "Send To Ext. or Number" (your own extension), or disable Forward Calls entirely. Save.

3

Forward to Ringing.io only on no-answer (Follow Me)

Ring your extension first; if you do not answer, Vonage follows the sequence to your Ringing.io number before dropping to voicemail.

When to use this: You want first crack at the call yourself, with the AI receptionist as your safety net before voicemail.
  1. 1

Open the extension in the Admin Portal

admin.vonage.com > Phone System > Extensions > pencil icon on the target extension.

  2. 2

Open Call Forwarding > Follow Me

Select the Follow Me option (instead of Forward Calls or Simultaneous Ring).

  3. 3

Add your extension first in the sequence

Add your own extension as step 1 with a ring time of 15-20 seconds. This is the time you have to answer before the call rolls.

  4. 4

    Add Ringing.io as step 2

Click "Add New Number", enter your Ringing.io number, and set its ring duration. Follow Me supports up to five destinations in sequence.

  5. 5

    Save and test

Save. Call your Vonage number and let it ring through without answering — after the first ring duration, the call should roll to Ringing.io.

How to undo: Edit the extension > Call Forwarding > switch the option back to "Send To Ext. or Number" pointing to your own extension. Save.

Note: Follow Me rings each destination in sequence — total wait time is the sum of each step's ring duration. Keep step 1 short (15 seconds is typical) or callers will give up before Ringing.io ever rings.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I configure call forwarding in Vonage Business?

Admins set it per-extension at admin.vonage.com under Phone System > Extensions > pencil icon > Call Forwarding. End users can self-serve from their user portal: Avatar > Settings > Call Forwarding.

What is the difference between Forward Calls, Follow Me, and Simultaneous Ring?

Forward Calls sends every call to one destination immediately, bypassing your extension. Follow Me rings up to five destinations in sequence (you, then mobile, then Ringing.io, etc) until one answers. Simultaneous Ring rings up to five destinations at the same time and the first to pick up wins.

Does Vonage Business support time-of-day forwarding schedules?

The per-extension Call Forwarding panel does not expose a built-in time-of-day schedule. For after-hours behavior, two options work: (1) publish your Ringing.io number and configure business hours inside Ringing.io; (2) at the account level, use a Virtual Receptionist with a schedule that routes after-hours calls to the extension forwarded to Ringing.io.

Which Caller ID option should I pick when forwarding to Ringing.io?

Choose "Originating Caller ID" so Ringing.io sees the real caller's phone number and can show it in your dashboard with full call history. "Number on Account" would mask the real caller and show your Vonage number instead, which makes call logs less useful.

Will SMS to my Vonage number be forwarded to Ringing.io?

No. Vonage call forwarding redirects voice calls only. SMS and MMS continue to arrive in your Vonage Business Communications inbox and the desktop or mobile apps.

I am on the mobile app. Will forwarding to Ringing.io duplicate calls?

It can if you forward to a mobile number that is also receiving the Vonage app push. Vonage specifically warns against this. The safe pattern is to forward to your Ringing.io number (a dedicated business number), not to your personal mobile that runs the Vonage app.

Does Vonage charge for forwarding calls to Ringing.io?

Forwarding to a US number is included in standard Vonage Business Communications plans. International forwarding may carry per-minute charges, but Ringing.io provides a US number so this does not apply. Confirm against your specific plan in the Admin Portal.

Don't have a Ringing.io number yet?

Get one in five minutes, set up your AI receptionist, then come back to this page to forward Vonage Business.
