How to Forward Calls from Dialpad to Ringing.io
Add Ringing.io as a Dialpad forwarding number for your personal line, or route your main line to Ringing.io during set business hours — both work from Your Settings.
Dialpad is user-based: forwarding rules attach to a Dialpad user (or to a main line / department), not to a phone number directly. Personal lines use the Forwarding Numbers feature; main lines and departments use Business Hours + Call Routing. Dialpad will call your forwarding number once during setup and ask you to press 1 to confirm ownership.
Forward your personal Dialpad line to Ringing.io
Add Ringing.io as a forwarding number so your Dialpad calls land at your AI receptionist instead of (or in addition to) your devices.
- 1
Open Your Settings in Dialpad
Sign in at dialpad.com, click your avatar in the top-right corner, and choose Your Settings.
- 2
Go to Your Devices > Add a Forwarding Number
Scroll to the Your Devices section and click "Add a Forwarding Number". Enter your 10-digit Ringing.io number with country code and click Save.
- 3
Verify the number with the press-1 prompt
Dialpad will immediately call the Ringing.io number. Ringing.io will answer — when prompted, press 1 to confirm. (If verification fails, repeat from the previous step; Dialpad allows up to five forwarding numbers per user.)
- 4
Disable your other devices (optional, for AI-only)
Back in Your Devices, toggle off the desktop app, mobile app, and any desk phones so calls only ring at the Ringing.io forwarding number. Leave them on if you want simultaneous ring.
- 5
Test
Call your Dialpad number from another phone. The call should reach Ringing.io and be answered by your AI receptionist.
How to undo: Open Your Settings > Your Devices, click the forwarding number, and choose Remove. Re-enable any devices you turned off. Calls return to your normal Dialpad behavior immediately.
Note: Dialpad shows a brief "Answer Forwarded Calls" prompt before connecting that cannot be permanently disabled. Ringing.io handles this automatically, so it is transparent to the caller.
After-hours only — Ringing.io covers your main line outside business hours
Use Dialpad's native Business Hours on your main line so your team rings in-hours and Ringing.io answers after-hours.
- 1
Open the main line in Admin Settings
Sign in to dialpad.com as an admin, open Admin Settings from the left rail, and select your office / main line.
- 2
Open Business Hours & Call Handling
Inside the main line settings, scroll to "Business Hours & Call Handling" and click Edit Hours. Set the timezone and your open hours by day, then Update.
- 3
Configure Open Hours Routing
At the top of the Call Routing section, select "Open Hours Routing" and leave the routing pointed to your team / operator / department as normal.
- 4
Configure Closed Hours Routing to Ringing.io
Switch to "Closed Hours Routing". Select "Forward to another number" (or "No operator" then add a forwarding action) and enter your 10-digit Ringing.io number. Save.
- 5
Optional: set Holiday Hours
In the same panel, open Manage Holidays & Routing Rules and add your holiday dates — these override the normal schedule and can also route to Ringing.io.
- 6
Test
Temporarily set your open hours to a small window outside the current time, then call your main line. It should route to Ringing.io. Restore the real hours when done.
How to undo: Open the main line > Business Hours & Call Handling > Closed Hours Routing and switch the destination back (voicemail, operator, etc.). To remove the schedule entirely, set the line to "Always take calls (24/7)".
Ring your devices first, forward misses to Ringing.io
Keep Dialpad ringing your desktop / mobile / desk phone, and route anything you miss to Ringing.io instead of voicemail.
- 1
Add Ringing.io as a forwarding number
Follow the steps in scenario 1 to add and verify your Ringing.io number under Your Settings > Your Devices.
- 2
Keep your primary devices enabled
In Your Devices, leave your desktop, mobile app, and any desk phones toggled on. They will ring first.
- 3
Set the Ringing.io forwarding number to ring after your devices
Click the Ringing.io forwarding entry > Advanced Settings, and set its ring delay so it only kicks in after your other devices have rung (e.g. delay by 15-20 seconds, or configure it as a fallback if Dialpad shows that option on your plan).
- 4
Adjust your custom ring duration
Under Your Settings > Your Devices, set a total ring duration long enough for you to answer (Dialpad recommends about 4 rings per 15 seconds), so missed calls reliably flow to Ringing.io.
- 5
Test
Call your Dialpad number and do not answer. After the ring duration elapses, the call should reach Ringing.io rather than Dialpad voicemail.
How to undo: Remove or disable the Ringing.io forwarding number in Your Settings > Your Devices, and Dialpad will revert to ringing your primary devices and dropping misses to voicemail.
Note: If your plan does not expose per-device ring delays, the simpler pattern is to leave both your devices and the Ringing.io forwarding number on simultaneous ring — Ringing.io will only pick up if you do not answer first.

Frequently asked questions
Where exactly do I add a forwarding number in Dialpad?
Sign in at dialpad.com, click your avatar > Your Settings, scroll to Your Devices, and click "Add a Forwarding Number". You can have up to five forwarding numbers per user, including international ones (extra usage charges apply for international).
Why is Dialpad calling my Ringing.io number during setup?
Dialpad calls the forwarding number once to verify you own it. When Ringing.io answers, the caller must press 1 to confirm. Ringing.io handles this automatically, so the verification completes without extra setup on your end.
Does Dialpad support time-of-day or business-hours forwarding?
Yes, but only at the main-line / department / contact-center level, not on individual personal forwarding numbers. Open Admin Settings > select your main line > Business Hours & Call Handling, set the schedule, then route Closed Hours to your Ringing.io number.
Can I keep my desk phone ringing and still forward to Ringing.io?
Yes. In Your Settings > Your Devices, leave your other devices toggled on. Calls will ring everywhere simultaneously — you can answer if available, otherwise Ringing.io picks up. To prevent simultaneous ring, toggle the other devices off.
What is the difference between a Dialpad forwarding number and Find Me / Follow Me?
Dialpad calls them "Forwarding Numbers" and they behave as additional ring destinations attached to your user, similar to Find Me / Follow Me. Toggle individual devices on or off to control whether they ring along with the forwarding number.
Will SMS to my Dialpad number be forwarded to Ringing.io?
No. Dialpad call forwarding redirects voice calls only. SMS and MMS continue to arrive in your Dialpad inbox. SMS forwarding is configured separately under Advanced Settings on each device.
Do I need admin access to set this up?
No for your personal line — any Dialpad user can add a forwarding number under Your Settings. Yes for main-line / department-level routing — only admins can edit Business Hours & Call Handling for those.
Don't have a Ringing.io number yet?
