How to Forward Calls from GoTo Connect to Ringing.io

GoTo Connect uses a visual dial-plan editor. Add Ringing.io as a Find Me/Follow Me ring step on your line, or insert a time-based schedule node for after-hours.

USCAVoIPBusiness

GoTo Connect (formerly Jive) is built around dial plans. Every line / extension has a dial plan with ring steps, and the admin portal exposes a drag-and-drop editor for branching by schedule, ring group, voicemail, or external number. Forwarding is configured at the line level (the phone number) and can also be edited per-user via Find Me/Follow Me in the GoTo desktop app. Schedules are first-class: build a schedule once in GoTo Admin and reference it from any dial plan.

1

Forward every call to Ringing.io

Replace the ring steps on your line's dial plan with a single step that forwards directly to your Ringing.io number.

When to use this: You want every call to your GoTo Connect line to go straight to the AI receptionist with no internal ring.
  1. 1

    Sign in to GoTo Admin

Open admin.goto.com and sign in. From the left nav choose Phone System > Phone Numbers (or Dial Plans).

  2. 2

Open the phone number's dial plan

Find the phone number you want to forward and click it. Click "Open dial plan" (or "Edit dial plan") to launch the visual editor.

  3. 3

Delete or disconnect existing ring steps

In the dial plan editor, remove the existing nodes (ring user, ring group, voicemail) that handle incoming calls so the entry point routes only to your new external forward.

  4. 4

Add a "Call external number" node

From the node palette add an external number / forwarding node, connect it to the entry point, and enter +1 followed by your 10-digit Ringing.io number.

  5. 5

    Save and publish

Click Save (and Publish if prompted). Changes apply to new calls immediately.

  6. 6

    Test

Call the phone number from an outside line. It should connect directly to Ringing.io without ringing any internal device.

How to undo: Re-open the dial plan in GoTo Admin, remove the external number node, and reconnect the entry point to your original ring step / ring group / voicemail. Save and publish.

Note: Editing a published dial plan replaces the live behavior. If you want to test safely, duplicate the dial plan first and swap which one is assigned to the phone number.

2

After-hours only — Ringing.io covers nights and weekends

Add a Schedule node to your dial plan that routes calls to your team during business hours and to Ringing.io otherwise.

When to use this: You want a real time-of-day split with no manual toggling. Native schedules in GoTo Admin handle this cleanly.
  1. 1

Create a Schedule in GoTo Admin

In GoTo Admin go to Phone System > Schedules and click + Add Schedule. Name it (e.g. "Business Hours"), choose your timezone, and set each day's open hours. Save.

  2. 2

    Open the line's dial plan

Go to Phone System > Phone Numbers, click your number, then Open dial plan.

  3. 3

    Insert a Schedule node

Drag a Schedule node onto the canvas between the entry point and your ring steps. Open the node and pick the schedule you just created.

  4. 4

Wire the "Open" output to your team

Connect the Schedule node's Open branch to your normal ring step / ring group / Find Me Follow Me.

  5. 5

Wire the "Closed" output to Ringing.io

Drag a "Call external number" / forwarding node onto the canvas, connect it to the Closed branch, and enter +1 + your 10-digit Ringing.io number.

  6. 6

    Save and publish, then test

Save the dial plan. Temporarily edit the schedule so the current time is "Closed" and place a call — it should land at Ringing.io. Restore the real hours when you confirm.

How to undo: Open the dial plan and delete the Schedule node — the entry point reconnects to your normal ring step. Or swap the line back to its original dial plan. Save and publish.

3

Ring your devices first, forward misses to Ringing.io

Use Find Me/Follow Me on your line so it rings your devices, then falls through to Ringing.io if no one answers.

When to use this: You want a human to answer live but never let a call hit voicemail — Ringing.io catches every miss.
  1. 1

Open your line's dial plan (or Find Me/Follow Me)

For a user-managed setup: in the GoTo Connect desktop app, click your profile picture > Settings > Find Me/Follow Me. For admin-managed: GoTo Admin > Phone System > Phone Numbers > your number > Open dial plan.

  2. 2

Add your devices as the first ring step

Configure ring step 1 to ring your desk phone, desktop app, and mobile app. Set the duration to give yourself a real chance to answer (typically 20-25 seconds).

  3. 3

Add Ringing.io as the next ring step

Add ring step 2 (or a fallthrough external-number node). Enter +1 + your 10-digit Ringing.io number. If using Find Me/Follow Me, choose "Ring sequentially" so Ringing.io only kicks in after your devices time out.

  4. 4

    Set the fallthrough on no-answer

Ensure the "no answer" path from your devices flows into the Ringing.io step (rather than voicemail). In the visual dial plan, wire the timeout output of your ring step directly to the external-number node.

  5. 5

    Save and test

Save and publish. Call the line and do not answer. After the timeout your call should reach Ringing.io instead of GoTo voicemail.

How to undo: Remove the Ringing.io ring step / external node and reconnect the no-answer path to voicemail. Save and publish.

Note: GoTo Connect bills the forwarded leg as an outbound call from your account in some plans. Check your minutes/usage if you expect very high call volume.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I configure call forwarding in GoTo Connect?

Two places: the GoTo Admin dial-plan editor (admin.goto.com > Phone System > Phone Numbers) for full routing control, and the GoTo Connect desktop/web app under your profile > Settings > Find Me/Follow Me for per-user forwarding.

Does GoTo Connect support time-of-day schedules?

Yes, natively. Create a schedule under Phone System > Schedules in GoTo Admin, then drag a Schedule node into any dial plan. Calls branch to the Open or Closed path based on the current time. No workaround needed.

Is forwarding per-user or per-line?

Both. A phone number's dial plan controls what happens when that number is called (per-line). Find Me/Follow Me on a user controls how a specific extension behaves when it is rung (per-user). They work together — a dial plan can ring a user whose Find Me/Follow Me then fans out further.

Why isn't my forwarded call reaching Ringing.io?

Common causes: (1) the dial plan was edited but not Published, (2) the external number was entered without the +1 country code, or (3) external forwarding is disabled on your seat (a paid feature on lower tiers). Check that the dial plan shows "Published" and that the external node has +1 plus 10 digits.

Can I forward without an admin?

For your own extension, yes — use Find Me/Follow Me in the GoTo Connect desktop app under your profile > Settings. For the company's main number or any shared line, an admin needs to edit the dial plan in GoTo Admin.

Does forwarding count against my minutes?

Forwarded calls use one inbound leg + one outbound leg through GoTo Connect to reach the external number. On metered plans this consumes outbound minutes. On most modern GoTo Connect plans inbound and outbound are unlimited in the US/Canada, so this is not a concern.

Will SMS / fax to my GoTo number be forwarded?

No. Dial-plan forwarding handles voice only. SMS continues to arrive in the GoTo Connect app and faxes route through your virtual fax extension as configured separately.

Don't have a Ringing.io number yet?

Get one in five minutes, set up your AI receptionist, then come back to this page to forward GoTo Connect.
